Ingredients

  • Tofu
  • 1 16-ounce block extra-firm tofu
  • 1⅓ tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp gluten-free breadcrumbs
  • Sauce
  • 1/4 cup gochujang
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tsp garlic minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger grated
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp vegetable broth or water
  • 1 tsp water

Method

Press tofu for 20–30 minutes and cut into cubes.
Toss tofu with cornstarch and breadcrumbs.
Cook tofu in a skillet until golden and crispy.
        Whisk together all sauce ingredients.
Pour sauce into skillet and simmer 2–3 minutes.
Return tofu to pan and toss gently to coat.
              Cook for 1 minute more.
                Serve immediately.

                  Notes

For maximum crispiness, press the tofu thoroughly and avoid overcrowding the pan. Air frying is an excellent alternative to pan-frying. For a vegan version, substitute maple syrup for honey.
