Servings: 16 brownies

Ingredients

  • Brownie Batter
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp canola oil
  • cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup Dutch-processed unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional Decoration
  • Red white, and blue sprinkles
  • Patriotic candy-coated chocolates

Method

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
Melt the butter and stir in the canola oil and sugar until combined.
Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then whisk in the eggs and vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
            Stir in the chocolate chips.
Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
Bake for 28–32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Cool completely before slicing into squares.
Decorate with patriotic sprinkles if desired.

                      Notes

For extra fudgy brownies, slightly underbake rather than overbake. Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days. These brownies freeze beautifully for up to 2 months.
